Man arrested after dragging mall security guard with car
ORANGE PARK, Fla. June 20 2017- A man was arrested Friday night after dragging an Orange Park Mall security guard with his car, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
Darius Caldwell, 18, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Deputies said a security officer received a complaint about a disturbance inside a white Kia Soul in the parking lot of Belk store at the Orange Park Mall.
When the security officer found the car matching that description, he asked a man inside — later identified as Caldwell — to get out of the car, according to an arrest report.
Caldwell did not, deputies said. That’s when the security officer grabbed the door handle of the car and Caldwell drove off as the guard was holding on to the moving vehicle, an arrest report said.
Witnesses said Caldwell then made a sharp right turn, throwing the security guard from the vehicle, and sped out of the parking lot, according to the arrest report.
Deputies said they later stopped Caldwell on U.S. Highway 17 and arrested him.
