Man arrested after threatening to shoot children’s hospital security
EDINBURG, Texas January 29 2024 A man was arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot a children’s hospital and a security officer, authorities said.
Alamo resident 18-year-old Moises Rodriguez was charged with terroristic threat, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to identify, according to a release from the Edinburg Police Department.
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, authorities responded to a call at the Edinburg Regional Children’s Hospital, located at 1102 West Trenton Road.
Police later learned that a man said he had a gun and was threatening to “shoot the place” and a security officer, the release stated.
At the scene, police attempted to speak with the suspect, later identified as Rodriguez, but fled from them and a foot pursuit began.
Rodriguez was later apprehended and taken into custody. Police conducted a security sweep on the fourth floor of the children’s hospital after the staff placed the facility on lockdown due to safety concerns.
Police deemed the hospital safe and the lockdown was lifted.
