Man arrested for pointing gun at light rail security guard in Phoenix
PHOENIX AZ Aug 24 2017 – An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a light rail security guard on Monday afternoon.
Phoenix police say at 4:30 p.m. a Valley Metro light rail security guard reported that 18-year-old Rashide Mates pointed a gun at him during a fare inspection on the light rail platform.
Officers located Mates in a nearby shopping center parking lot before he fled into a neighborhood on foot.
After a search with the assistance of an air unit, police located Mates on the roof of a home near 11th Avenue and Colter Street.
Mates was then persuaded to come down from the roof and was taken into custody by officers without further incident.
He was booked into jail on several charges including aggravated assault.
