New York City NY Sept 15 2019
A sword-swinging man was arrested Friday afternoon on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, cops said.
No one was injured in the ordeal around 4:30 p.m. when the 35-year-old man pulled the cane sword, according to NYPD.
Police sources said the man was threatening to kill himself.
“We just saw a guy with a what looked like a sword pointing to his heart,” said a witness, who only gave his name as Orlando. He believed the man was suicidal.
The whole scene took about 10 minutes to unfold before security got the situation under control, according to witnesses.
“I see him sitting … sort of like in a sleeping position, then when I was queuing up, he got up and put the sword to his chest and started shouting,” said witness, Paul Allen.
The man was taken to Bellevue for a psychiatric evaluation and no charges have been filed, cops said.
