Man arrested on shoplifting charges, having lost car key inside the Target

A man was arrested recently for stealing hundreds of dollars of items from a Target after he had returned to the store to ask for help finding his car keys.
The 59-year-old Rochester Hills man needed help finding the key fob for his orange 2019 Fiat 500X shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Target on Coolidge Highway, Troy police said in a report.
Inside the store, a security officer used to surveillance to see where the man had gone. Then, they realized they had a shoplifting on their hands.
“The loss prevention Officer began to monitor the security camera footage and was able to observe the customer inside the business earlier,” Troy police said. “The loss prevention Officer observed the subject pushing a cart full of merchandise outside the exit doors, failing to pay for $532.82 worth of products that were for sale inside the business.”
The store officer called police, and Troy police officers arrived and spoke to the man outside his car, and inside the car, they noticed the items.
He was arrested and charged with second-degree retail fraud, the stolen merchandise was recovered by police.
