Man charged after grandmother locked in car at casino for 16 hours
MILWAUKEE WI May 31 2019
A Milwaukee man is accused of locking his grandmother in a car for 16 hours while he gambled at Potawatomi casino.
In December, a security guard found the 76-year-old woman in a car in the Potawatomi parking garage.
The doors were locked and she could not get out because of child safety locks.
According to a criminal complaint, the casino paged the car’s owner and Wesley Brown, 29, came outside.
The woman’s seat belt was so tight, “it had embedded into (the woman’s) skin,” the complaint said.
Officers had to cut it with a knife to free her.
The woman, who has dementia, “was wearing a soiled diaper.”
The temperature at the time was 37 degrees, according to responding officers.
Prosecutors said Brown admitted to leaving her there and “believed there were chips and candy in the back seat.”
The complaint said Brown checked on her once but didn’t bring her food or water.
Prosecutors charged Brown with intentionally subjecting an individual at risk to abuse, false imprisonment and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
If convicted, Brown faces up to 10 years in prison.
