Man charged with assaulting campus security officer-threatening to kill students
AUSTIN, TX September 27 2019— The University of Texas at Austin community is breathing a collective sigh of relief with the arrest this week of a man who threatened to “…shoot all the rich kids at UT,” according to reports.
Dakota Carl Blakely, 25, initially was arrested after allegedly assaulting a security officer at Dell Seton Medical Center, after which he made the terroristic threat against the UT-Austin student body while being treated for injuries, KXAN reported.
Blakely was said to have been behaving aggressively toward medical staff while at the emergency room on Monday, prompting a security officer to be dispatched to the scene, according to the report. The interaction descended to physical confrontation, during which Blakely is accused of trying to punch the security officer and, later, biting his thumb.
It was during his stay at the Travis County Jail that Blakely is said to have threatened to shoot UT-Austin students — and an officer at the jail to boot, KXAN reported. White supremacist imagery was later found on the suspect’s Facebook account along with photos of him wielding firearms, according to the news station.
According to Travis County Jail records, Blakely was charged with making a terroristic threat and assault on emergency services personnel, a third-degree felony. Bail was set at $65,000 — $45,000 for the terroristic threat and $25,000 on the assault charge — with orders for him to stay at least 200 yards away from the UT-Austin campus.
