Man charged with assaulting Sandusky County Park Ranger
MADISON TOWNSHIP OH July 24 2019 – A Gibsonburg man ended up in jail over the weekend after allegedly assaulting a Sandusky County Park Ranger who was going to ask him to move his motorcycle and get a ride home for having a suspended operator’s license.
Keith Gschwind, 41, was parked illegally at White Star Park and became agitated and drove off after a park ranger asked to see his license around 6 p.m. Friday.
Sandusky County Park District Director Andrew Brown said Gschwind returned to the park a short time later.
Brown said the man became agitated when approached again and then shoved the ranger and began kicking and punching.
Brown said the man continue resisting officers as he was being placed in handcuffs.
“He kept fighting on the ground as he was being arrested,” Brown said. “The ranger was just going to ask him to move his bike and get a ride home.”
Instead, Gschwind was booked into the Sandusky County Jail on two fourth-degree felony assault charges and misdeameanor charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to comply with a police officer, obstructing official business, failure to provide identity, and driving under suspension.
Brown said no rangers were hurt during the incident. The park district was assisted by officers from Gibsonburg Police.
Gschwind previously pleaded guilty in 2011 to cocaine possession and was sentenced to 12 months in prison, and in 2013 pleaded guilty to trafficking in cocaine and was placed on five years of community control.
In 2018, Gschwind pleaded no contest to criminal damaging and was found guilty and sentenced to 90 days in jail with 80 days suspended and was fined $100.
