Man charged with capital murder in game room robbery shooting
Harris County TX March 27 2018Â Authorities have charged one man with capital murder in the 2016 shooting of a security guard at a Harris County game room.
Matthew Thompson, 31, is accused of shooting and killing Enrique Garcia, 59, during an attempted robbery at the north Harris County game room on Nov. 6, 2016. He is being held on no bond.
A witness told investigators that the security guard was killed after he attempted to lock the front entrance of the game room, on 538 Dale Street near Lillja. The witness saw Garcia run to lock the door, but a man had already entered, a Harris County prosecutor said in a probable cause court hearing Monday morning.
The witness saw the robber raise his arm at Garcia, and then he heard three gunshots, the prosecutor said. Garcia fell to the ground and the gunman left.
Video surveillance also showed three men with handguns running to the building. One forced his way into the location before Garcia could shut the gate, and that same person fired his gun at Garcia, killing him, the prosecutor said.
The other two robbers couldn’t get into the gate, and all three of them left in a minivan, the video showed.
Police heard that Thompson might have been involved in the robbery when Thompson’s mother called a family friend, who was an officer, the prosecutor said.
Authorities went to speak to Thompson’s mother, who said she got a call in January 2017 from her son. He told her he was involved in a robbery where someone was shot and killed, but he said he wasn’t the shooter, according to the prosecutor.
