Man charged with robbery after assaulting security officer during potato chip thefts

A homeless is being held on a $50,000 bond after assaulting a security officer during a theft.
Santa Monica Police Department officers responded to 1551 Ocean Ave., a Subway location, regarding the theft investigation.
While speaking to the restaurant owner and security guard for the building, the officer learned the suspect stole four bags of chips.
The security guard tried to retrieve the chips from the suspect, but the suspect punched the security guard in the face.
As the officer continued to speak to the security guard about the incident, the suspect returned and was arrested at the scene.
Michael Christian Burton, 32, homeless, was booked for Estes robbery. His bail was set at $50,000.
