Man charged with threatening to shoot up Oconee County church with AR-15
OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. September 21 2019
An Upstate man has been charged with threatening to shoot up a church with an AR-15, according to Kianna Holland, with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
Damon O’Neal Johnson, 22, was charged with giving false information, assault and battery third degree and disturbing a place of worship, Holland said.
According to Holland, deputies responded to Foothills Community Church on Wednesday after Johnson was threatening to shoot people with his “fully loaded AR-15.”
Deputies found Johnson walking down Critter Road and immediately detained him, Holland said.
According to Holland, Johnson became aggressive after being asked to leave a youth group, due to being over age.
When the security officer at the church asked Johnson to leave the church premises due to his conduct, he began threatening to shoot the officer with his “fully loaded AR-15,” Holland said.
Deputies searched the area near Foothills Community Church and did not find the weapon referenced in Johnson’s threats, or any other weapons, Holland said.
