Man dies after being punched by security guard outside Nashville bar
Nashville TN Dec 29 2017 Detectives are investigating the death of a bar patron as a homicide after police say he died from head injuries he sustained from being punched by a security guard.
Shamar J. Davis, 20, died in a local hospital Monday night.
He was injured during the early hours of Oct. 15, police said, when he was punched in the face by a security worker as Davis lay on the ground outside Jazzy’s Restaurant & Lounge, 1520 Hampton Street.
According to police, Davis was being escorted out of the club by security guards when he punched one of the guards in the face and was then thrown to the ground.
While Davis remained on the ground, police believe 31-year-old Lamar D. Clay, a Jazzy’s security worker, jumped on top of Davis and punched him in the face.
Police arrested Clay, of Meridian Street, on Nov. 17 on a charge of attempted criminal homicide. He was released after posting bond.
Following Davis’ death, detectives are discussing with the district attorney’s office the possibility of upgrading the charge against Clay.
Davis’ death is Nashville’s 105th criminal homicide this year.
