Man dies after he jumps from 5th floor of Crouse Hospital in Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. Aug 15 2018— A man has died Monday evening after he jumped from a fifth-floor window at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Richard Helterline said.
Someone at the hospital called 911 at 4:42 p.m. to say a man had jumped from the fifth floor of the Memorial Unit on the west side of Crouse Hospital.
When emergency crews arrived, they reported the man was in “very critical condition.”
The man was taken next-door to Upstate University Hospital, where he later died, Helterline said.
The man had been seen and discharged from Crouse Hospital’s emergency room earlier Monday, hospital spokesman Bob Allen said.
Police believe the man jumped with the intent to commit suicide, Helterline said.
Security guards stood outside Crouse Hospital while police investigated. A member of the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office and Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler also were at the scene.
“At this time, this is not considered a criminal investigation,” Helterline said.
