Man falls to death at UF Health Jacksonville
Jacksonville FL June 27 2019 A man smashed through a fifth-floor window and fell to his death Monday afternoon at UF Health Jacksonville in Springfield, his death being investigated as a suicide, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A UF Health spokesman said the hospital is cooperating with police and had no comment. UF Health’s website indicates its fifth-floor houses cardiovascular, gastroenterology and nephrology centers as well as psychiatric and mental health facilities.
A security guard alerted an off-duty officer there just before 7 p.m. that someone had “jumped out of the window” at the hospital pavilion at 555 W. Eighth St., according to the police report. The officer found the unidentified victim in the parking lot on the east side of the building. A broken window on the fifth floor was visible above.
The man had been a patient since Thursday, the report said, with one employee saying he had been “calm throughout the day.” But as employees on the evening work shift headed to his room to discuss treatment, they saw him do something, although the report redacts that part of the narrative that preceded his death.
