Man gets life for killing Gwinnett Ga.Walmart security officer in attempted TV theft
Lilburn GA Dec 8 2017 A man has pleaded guilty to murder charges in the April 2016 killing of a Walmart employee, Lilburn police said.
Boaz Anthony Fordyce pleaded guilty to one count of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of theft by shoplifting, and one count of possession of firearm during the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to life in prison.
On April 10, 2016, Fordyce was attempting to steal multiple TVs from the Walmart at 4004 Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn, police said. A loss prevention officer, J.D. Ferguson, attempted to stop Fordyce, and Fordyce fatally shot Ferguso, according to police.
Fordyce fled only to be arrested two days later when he tried to buy the gun used in the shooting back from a pawn shop owner. Officials said police investigators were able to identify and then arrest him quickly because of numerous tips they received from the public.
“It is our hope that the successful end of this case helps to bring some sense of closure to the Ferguson family,” said Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Headley in a release.ajc
