Man holding knife to federal security officer’s throat shot
Augusta ME April 22 2022 Authorities have identified the man they say held a knife to a security officer’s throat at a federal building in Augusta on Wednesday.
Officials say Derik Wight of Augusta entered the Edmund S. Muskie Federal Building around 11:30 a.m. with a knife.
According to the FBI, the man physically assaulted one of the Federal Protective Service contract security officers and held a knife near their throat.
Another Federal Protective Service officer then shot Wight, officials say.
He was taken into custody and brought to a hospital. Officials say no one inside the building was hurt.
Wight is charged with assaulting a federal officer. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
