Riverside County CA December 17 2019
A man shot and killed himself while sitting in a car during a standoff at the Promenade Temecula shopping mall on Saturday, Dec. 14, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies and the SWAT team responded to the mall at Winchester and Margarita roads about 2:54 p.m., a sheriff’s Twitter message said.
During the standoff, deputies diverted traffic in the area and used a SWAT truck as a shield between the man and nearby stores, where customers and employees were locked down, said Sgt. Albert Martinez, a department spokesman.
Then just before 4:30 p.m., the man shot himself.
No information on his identity was available on Saturday.
The mall has more than 170 shops and restaurants, according to its website.
