Man overpowers hospital security guard, disarms officer and fires shots

A man said to be under the influence of narcotics, overpowered an armed hospital security officer and fired numerous shots.
Magnolia Regional Health Center was on lockdown Sunday morning and a full-scale investigation remains underway by the Corinth Police Department after a man entered the emergency room area, overpowered the security guard, and fired at least two shots.
A suspect who police described as under the influence of narcotics and seeking treatment at about 8 a.m. Sunday took the guard’s firearm, attempted to fire a shot into his own head, but there was not a bullet in the gun’s chamber, Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance told the Daily Corinthian.
He did manage to get rounds into the chamber and fired several bullets inside the emergency department police reported.
Police arrived quickly and took the man into custody without anyone being injured.
