Man set merchandise on fire at East Greenbush Walmart
EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. Oct 30 2017 An Albany man was arrested for setting a display of merchandise on fire, police said.
Marquan N. Miller, 29, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Police said Miller used a butane pocket lighter to set a display on fire Monday afternoon at the East Greenbush Walmart. The blaze was contained by store security with fire extinguishers, police said, but it filled the building with smoke and forced the evacuation of about 100 customers. The East Greenbush Fire Department ventilated the building and declared the fire out about 90 minutes later, police said.
Miller was arraigned Friday. Miller was represented by Rensselaer County Public Defender David Rynkowski, who secured Miller’s release in joint custody with the county Probation Department pending further court proceedings, police said.
