Man shoots three people at Cleveland bar after security guards refused to let him inside
CLEVELAND, Ohio Oct 10 2019— A man shot three people, including two security guards, at a bar in the city’s Goodrich-Kirtland Park neighborhood after a guard refused to let him in the bar because he was carrying a gun, according to police.
Jerome White, 30, is charged with felonious assault and is being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on $100,000 bond. The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Little Kings Lounge on East 30th Street and Payne Avenue.
It’s the second time in a month that a security guard at the bar was shot.
White, three other men and four women showed up to the bar but were not allowed in because White was carrying a gun, according to police reports.
The three women tried to push their way into the bar, which allowed several people in the group to enter, according to police.
A 25-year-old man in the group punched the security guard the face, according to police. Another security guard helped push White and the 25-year-old man out of the bar.
The guards shut and locked the door, police reports say. The 25-year-old man tried to push his way back into the bar, but White pulled him out of his way, pulled out his gun and fired five shots.
The bullets ripped through the bar and hit a 40-year-old security guard in the buttocks, a 35-year-old security guard in the thigh and a 26-year-old patron in the foot as he sat on a barstool, according to police reports.
White and the 25-year-old man walked away from the bar, police reports say.
Ohio Investigative Unit officers, who investigate liquor license violations and other violations at bars around the state, saw the shooting and chased after the two men, according to police reports.
The 25-year-old man was quickly arrested by an Ohio Investigative Unit officer. He has not been formally charged.
Another officer chased White but lost sight of him. A Cleveland police officer spotted White and chased him. White climbed up onto the roof of a nearby building, where officers arrested him, according to police reports.
The gun police believe White used in the shooting was found on the side of the building, police reports say.
Bar security video recorded the incident and the bar’s owner turned it over to investigators.
A 40-year-old security guard was shot in the leg Sept. 8 after a patron, later identified by police as Albert Flowers, argued with the security guard as the bar closed.
Flowers pulled out a gun and shot the security guard because the guard took the pool balls off the table and told Flowers to leave.
