Man shot by UAH police now charged with attempted murder now charged with attempted murder
Huntsville AL April 3 2019 A man who was shot by campus police officers in Huntsville has been charged with multiple crimes, including trying to kill cops, records show.
Clifford Landers, 31, is held in the Madison County jail without bail on charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, attempting to elude, driving with a suspended license, speeding and other traffic offenses, according to jail records.
The charges stem from a run-in with police officers from the University of Alabama in Huntsville on March 22. A campus officer shot Landers after a chase that began at UAH and ended in downtown Huntsville.
UAH officials said Landers rammed two UAH police cars and tried to run over an office. One of the officers then shot Landers, a UAH spokesman said.
AL.com is seeking information about the officers — who are on leave pending investigation of the shooting — through a public records request. A university attorney denied a request for video footage captured on body cameras or dashboard cameras.
