Man shot, killed by police in Smith County TN after allegedly trying to hit officer with vehicle

A Smith County Hospital security officer spotted a man sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot and called police because he thought that was suspicious.
It was around 4: 30 am and the security guard asked for assistance.
When police arrived, Joseph Robbins was driving a vehicle in the Smith County Hospital parking lot.
When two Carthage police officers approached the vehicle on foot, Robbins allegedly tried to strike one officer with the vehicle.
The officer fired several shots, hitting Robbins, who later died, according to the TBI.
No police officers were injured. The officers involved have not been identified.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the police shooting.
Findings by the TBI will be forwarded to the District Attorney General’s office. The investigation was requested by 15th District Attorney General Tommy Thompson
