Man shot, killed by security guard at Philadelphia bar

A New Year’s Eve celebration in Northwest Philly ended with a deadly shooting after a security guard took action against a man armed with a knife.
Police say it began when a 55-year-old man stabbed himself during what may have been an emotional episode at his home on Schoolhouse Lane.
Police say at some point he raised his knife and lunged at a security guard, who took out a gun and shot him.
“The security guard is currently being interviewed by homicide detectives, but at this time it does appear it was an effort of self-defense against being stabbed by the individual who is deceased,” Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead with a gunshot wound to the chest and multiple self-inflicted stab wounds.
No arrests have been made.
