Man Sought For Assaulting, Trying To Disarm VA. Security Officer
WOODBRIDGE, VA April 27 2019—Authorities are looking for a man who assaulted a woman and then tried to disarm a security guard during an ensuing struggle early Monday in the Best Western at 14619 Potomac Mills Road, according to Prince William County Police.
Umar Charm, 34, of the 15200 block of Barnabas Trail in Woodbridge, is wanted for robbery, robbery of a firearm, domestic assault and battery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and destruction of property.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m., police responded to the hotel for a reported robbery.
A 32-year-old woman said Charm—an acquaintance—struck her, threw her to the ground and then forcibly took her cell phone.
When an armed security guard intervened, Charm punched him multiple times, eventually knocking him the ground.
He continued to beat him and then tried to take the handgun from the security guard’s holster.
That didn’t work, so Charm left the building and again confronted the woman, who earlier had managed to retrieve the cell phone.
This time he grabbed her cell phone and smashed it on the ground before fleeing on foot.
Minor injuries were reported.
PWC Police spokesperson Renee Carr said Thursday that Charm has yet to be found.
