Brunswick GA July 5 2017 An off duty Brunswick police officer fatally shot a man Monday night who police say was allegedly in the process of stabbing a woman outside an apartment complex in 2100 block of N Street, according to police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials.
David Leon Bell was transported by ambulance to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital following the 7:13 p.m. shooting, where he died of his wounds, police said.
Brunswick Police Officer Aldrid Spaulding III has been placed on paid administrative leave as a matter of police department policy, Brunswick Police Capt. Angela Smith said.
The stabbing victim, Erica Williams, also was transported to the hospital and remains there in stable condition, Smith said.
Officer Spaulding was off duty, but nearby when he learned of a potentially violent domestic dispute taking place outside an apartment complex, Smith said. On duty Brunswick police officers also were dispatched to the incident.
Police said Bell allegedly was stabbing Williams as Spaulding reached the apartment complex. Police said Spaulding subsequently shot Bell.
