Man who crashed Boeing plant gate injuring security officer sentenced to prison for 10 years
SEATTLE WA April 23 2019 – A man who crashed a car through a gate at the Renton Boeing plant last year, critically injuring a security guard, was sentenced Monday to a total of nearly 10 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down against Peter Suriz Phommasak, 28, in King County Superior Court after he pleaded guilty to five charges in connection with the April 2018 incident, inlcuding vehicular assault and hit-and-run.
Part of the sentence may be served concurrently, the judge ruled, meaning that Phommasak faces the possibility of 94 months in prison, with credit for time already served. He also was ordered to pay restitution in an amount to be determined.
According to police, the incident unfolded April 9, 2018, when Renton police responded to a report that a janitor in his 50s had been assaulted at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park on Lake Washington.
The suspect in the assault, later identified as Phommasak, had reportedly grabbed the janitor from behind and choked him, police said.
Phommasak was driving away as officers arrived, and they chased after him. The chase ended after the suspect’s car crashed through the Boeing plant gate in the 700 block of Logan Avenue North and injured the security guard.
At Monday’s sentencing, Phommasak was also ordered not to drink alcohol or consume marijuana after his release. He also was ordered not to drive for 10 years.
