Man who stole security SUV, rammed police cruisers accepts plea deal
Anchorage AK March 31 2019 While he was facing more than a dozen charges for using a stolen security vehicle to ram into multiple Anchorage police cruisers, Jasten K. Fujishiro has accepted a plea deal.
The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree vehicle theft, failing to stop at the direction of an officer and third degree assault — all class C felonies — in exchange for a sentence of 18 months with no probation.
APD officers arrested Fujishiro after a nearly three-hour chain of events early on Feb. 19, 2019, which started 1 a.m., when a security guard called police from the Holiday gas station at 36th Avenue and C Street to report that his Nissan Xterra work vehicle had been stolen.
He rammed into multiple cars, including three police cruisers. Officers were finally able to box Fujishiro in and arrest him at about 3:45 a.m., near West Benson Boulevard and Cheechako Street. No officers were injured in the incident.
During his change of plea hearing on Friday, Fujishiro was given the opportunity to make a statement, but chose not to.
As part of his plea agreement, he will be required to pay restitution in an amount yet to be determined.
