Man with concealed gun arrested at Gold Country Casino
OROVILLE, Calif. January 28 2021– On Monday, Jan. 18th, at around 5:20 a.m., Butte County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to Gold Country Casino in Oroville. Casino security informed them of a male with a concealed handgun in his waistband inside the casino.
Deputies arrived and were advised that the suspect, identified as Pedro Vazquez, age 29 of Willows, was on the casino floor. The deputies approached Vazquez, the suspect turned towards the deputies, reached for his waistband and tried to run away.
A deputy then sent a police service dog. Vazquez ran for 60-yards before the K-9 unit reached him and this allowed the deputies to safely take the suspect into custody.
A loaded handgun located five-feet from where Vazquez was apprehended was found. Vazquez is a convicted felon and is not allowed to carry a firearm.
Vazquez was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then booked into Butte County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without being the registered owner, possession of a concealed weapon, and resisting/obstructing a police officer.
