Man with homemade hatchet arrested after pulling knife on security at bus station
OKLAHOMA CITY OK July 23 2018
A man carrying a homemade hatchet was arrested by police after he reportedly pulled a knife on a security guard at a metro bus station.
Just after 7 p.m. July 18 officers were dispatched to a Greyhound, 1948 E. Reno, by a security guard who was following a man that had pulled a knife on him, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Officers arrived on scene and found the guard, who pointed them towards the man. The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Raymond James Hammond, was walking through the parking lot of a motel carrying a large stick that had a metal spike stuck to the top on one end and a tree branch whittled to a sharp point on the other.
Hammond dropped the stick when officers approached him and he was placed into custody. Officers allegedly found a marijuana cigarette between the pages of a Bible in the man’s pockets.
Officers then spoke with the security guard who stated he had observed Hammond come into the station to buy a ticket carrying the homemade hatchet. The guard approached Hammond and told him he wouldn’t be able to take it on the bus and Hammond left the business.
While outside the business, Hammond laid down and appeared to be taking a nap. The guard then approached him again and told him he would have to leave. When approached Hammond allegedly pulled a knife out of his pocket and pointed it at the guard.
Hammond then began walking away. He allegedly swung the homemade hatchet at the guard as the man followed him and called police.
Officers booked Hammond into the Oklahoma County Jail on complaints of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana.
