Marijuana facility security officer robbed and carjacked
ARCATA, CA July 12 2019
Police were called to the Bear Extraction House, a marijuana facility at the 5500 block of West End Road in Arcata after a security officer was robbed and carjacked.
Arcata Police said that at 4:12 this morning they found a security guard who told them three masked men, one with a rifle or a long gun accosted him and held him at gunpoint to “ensure the security guard did not disrupt the action.”
Police Chief Brian Ahearn said the security guard told officers the suspects were able to gain access to a storage unit where an undetermined amount of cannabis was stolen. Ahearn said the suspects left the scene in a pickup truck and a silver Honda sedan that belonged to the security guard.
“We sent investigators to the scene and don’t have any leads right now,” Ahearn said.
Ahearn went on to say that the investigation is still in its early stages and the exact details and value of the stolen items are still being determined.
Bear Extraction House, which focuses mainly on production of hash oil, is located in Arcata’s Cannabis Innovation Zone, an industrial area near Giuntoli Lane.
Stacia Eliason of Bear Extraction House said they will provide more information in the upcoming days.
Will Lawrence, the security guard in question said that he knew what the job was and the possible dangers but that he really needs his vehicle back.
