Marijuana gummies send Polk middle school students to hospital
MULBERRY, Fla. November 30 2018 Several middle school students were hospitalized this afternoon after eating gummy bear candies laced with marijuana, Polk County deputies say.
According to the sheriff’s office, five students from Mulberry Middle school were so sickened by the candies that they had to be taken to the hospital. Two others were picked up by their parents to be medically checked out elsewhere.
Detectives are now working with school and district staff to figure out how the children accessed the candy. Criminal charges are likely, they added.
“We have long been concerned about the dangers of marijuana-infused candy, and that it would get into the hands of, and poison, children. Here’s an example of that,” Sheriff Grady Judd offered in a statement about the investigation.
