Mars Area School District establishes new police force
Butler County PA July 6 2019
The Mars Area School District is continuing with the process of creating a hybrid school police force as they hire officers and establish the police force.
The Mars School Board has hired three full-time school police officers along with two substitute school police officers.
Two Adams Township officers employed by the township but permanently assigned- during the school year- to the district will also make up the new force.
According to Superintendent Dr. Wes Shipley, all of those who were hired are retired state police troopers. The board also approved a school police officer job description, established required qualifications, and outlined the responsibilities and duties of the position.
The new school police officers will participate in training throughout August so they are ready when classes resume in September.
