MD deputy sheriff dies from self-inflicted gunshot
ACCOKEEK, Md. Jan 29 2019 Prince George’s County Police say a Charles County sheriff’s deputy was found dead inside a mangled car on Indian Head Highway before midnight Thursday.
Corporal Patrick “P.J.” Mann, a school resource officer assigned to St. Charles High School in Waldorf, died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound before the crash, according to an autopsy report conducted Friday.
Mann began his career with the Charles County Sheriff’s in 2005. He worked in patrol and then in 2008 was transferred to the School Resource Unit, according to Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say he previously worked at Matthew Henson Middle School and J.C. Parks Elementary School before he was assigned to St. Charles High School where he worked until 2014. Mann also covered Mary B. Neal Elementary School.
Mann was found dead in his personal vehicle on Thursday night after it ran off the roadway in the 17000 block of Beech Lane off Route 210 in Accokeek.
A Prince George’s County officer who responded to the scene then suffered serious but stable injuries when his cruiser was hit while blocking the road. He is currently recovering from his injuries.
All lanes have reopened on 210 after it was initially closed for the accident.
