MD. High School Security Officer Hit by Car, Injured
Montgomery County MD January 8 2019
A Montgomery County Public Schools security guard is recovering from injuries after he was hit by a car late last week.
Jeffery Seals, a security officer at Montgomery Blair High School, was struck at 7:20 a.m. at University Boulevard West and Colesville Road in Silver Spring, near the driveway of a 7-Eleven convenience store close to the school.
The driver remained on scene and was charged with failure to obey the right of way of a pedestrian, according to police.
Seals was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and was “at home resting” Friday, according to Blair Principal Renay Johnson.
Blazers: Mr. Seals, security staff, was hit by a car this morning at Four Corners. He is at home resting. A letter with more information will be sent to Blair families today. Get well cards or notes for Mr. Seals can be dropped off at the main office. Thank you for your support
Students were encouraged to drop off get-well cards to the high school’s main office to show support for Seals.
School security guards are unarmed staff members who enforce regulations at county schools. Some schools also have school resource officers who are sworn police officers, trained to prevent and respond to crime and safety threats in schools.
Seals, who has been on staff with the school district for more than two decades, is among seven pedestrians struck by vehicles on county roads through the first six days of 2019. All pedestrians had non-life threatening injuries, according to county police.
There were more than 300 pedestrian-involved collisions in Montgomery County in 2018, prompting several safety campaigns and discussion among county and state leaders.
In October, four John F. Kennedy High School students were hit by a vehicle while waiting at a school bus stop in Aspen Hill, and about a week later two Northwest High School students were injured when struck while crossing a Germantown road shortly after class was dismissed for the day.
