MD man arrested in ISIS-inspired plot against pedestrians at National Harbor
Baltimore MD April 9 2019 A Maryland man stole a U-Haul van with the intent of using it as a weapon in an ISIS-inspired plot against pedestrians at National Harbor, the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Rondell Henry, 28, of Germantown, walked off his job March 26 with the intent of driving in to pedestrians, prosecutors said. He drove around the D.C. area looking for a vehicle to use and followed a leased U-Haul van into a mall garage in Alexandria, Virginia, where he stole it.
The van was found at National Harbor March 28, and Henry was arrested.
Henry said he was inspired by ISIS.Henry is charged with interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle and faces 10 years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors filed a motion to keep Henry in custody as a flight risk. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
