Memphis police officer killed in traffic collision
MEMPHIS, Tenn. March 11 2021— The Memphis Police officer killed in an overnight crash in Whitehaven has been identified.
According to authorities, Nicholas Blow, 31, was leaving the Raines Station to head home from work when his car was hit by another vehicle around 10 p.m. Blow is a father of two.
When we spoke with his girlfriend earlier on Tuesday, she wanted to share one message: “he was a great father.”
Monday, MPD Director Michael Rallings said. The officer was rushed to the Regional Medical Center, but did not survive.
“This is a tough job. To lose an officer always takes a lot out of us and again, we just ask that our citizens keep our officers in our prayers,” Rallings said.
WREG spoke with loved ones of Nicholas Blow, who say he was excited about the direction of his life.
They describe him as “a hardworking man who always had a smile on his face.”
They say he was also happy about the direction of his career, working his way up with MPD.
“He’s been with the police department since 2018, so a relatively young officer,” Rallings said.
Nicholas Blow leaves behind a loving family, including his girlfriend and a two-month old daughter. They were too heartbroken to speak on-camera.
The other driver was taken to the hospital for non-critical injuries, MPD said. The driver has been detained, but no charges have been filed at this point.
MPD said Blow was an Army veteran and the father of a two-month-old child.
