Memphis security guard charged with killing man over loud music
MEMPHIS, Tenn. August 9 2021— Memphis Police are still investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at a East Memphis Kroger.
Officers responded to the Kroger in the 6600 block of Poplar Avenue Saturday evening.
MPD said one man was shot and killed at the Kroger Fuel Center by a security guard.
Memphis Police said the preliminary information reveals an argument between the victim and the suspect happened prior to the shooting.
A security guard confronted the man about loud music playing from his vehicle.
On Sunday, in the affidavit, Memphis Police confirmed the security guard, 54-year-old Gregory Livingston, approached officers and told them he had shot a man.
The shooting victim’s girlfriend witnessed the incident and told officers Livingston and her boyfriend argued over the volume of music coming from their car. The girlfriend had her boyfriend come back to the car, but he then exited the car and told Livingston they should “talk like men.”
Shortly after, the victim was shot to death by Livingston and surveillance cameras captured the incident.
Livingston was charged with Second Degree Murder.
A Kroger spokesperson released the following statement:
The Kroger Delta Division is working in full cooperation with the Memphis police department. This is an active investigation, therefore; we are deferring all questions to local law enforcement for the integrity of the investigation.
