Merrimack County court officer among those killed in crash
Randolph, New Hampshire June 26 2019
A retired Plymouth police sergeant and former Marine is among the seven people killed in the horrific crash in Randolph, New Hampshire on Friday.
Michael Ferazzi, who was living in Contoocook, N.H. but formerly lived in Plymouth, died in the crash, according to his obituary.
The 62-year-old grandfather was working as a sheriff’s deputy with the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Department when he died.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the tragic passing of Michael Ferazzi, a court security officer here at the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office on June 21, 2019 after being involved in a motorcycle accident. Mike started working here at the office on June 4, 2018 and quickly became a valuable and beloved member of our staff,” Merrimack County Sheriff Scott E. Hilliard wrote in a statement.
Ferazzi served in the Marines from 1976 until 1980, where he was assigned to the U.S. Department of the State Diplomatic Security Detachment at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, family said.
“It was awful, it was awful,” Manny Ribeiro, president of the Massachusetts chapter of Marine JarHeads, said in a TODAY show interview. “These are some of the greatest people I’ve come across in my life, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”
Authorities say Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, 23 of West Springfield, was driving a 2016 Dodge 2500 pickup truck with an attached trailer on Route 2 westbound when he crossed the double yellow centerline and hit a club of motorcycle riders on Sunday.
Seven people were killed in the crash including Jo-Ann and Edward Corr, a Lakeville couple riding on the same bike together.
Two people from Massachusetts, Joshua Morin, 45, of Dalton, and Steve Lewis, 58, of Brimfield, were also injured in the crash. They are both expected to live.
Four people from New Hampshire, including Ferazzi, and a Rhode Island man were also killed in the crash, according to officials.
