Metropolitan PD Sgt. Donna Allen Dies After Medical Emergency
Washington, DC April 16 2020– Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Sergeant Donna Allen died on Wednesday morning after suffering a medical emergency.
The 49-year-old sergeant experienced the medical episode shortly after she finished her shift at the MPD’s Third District, WTTG reported.
She had just left the station and was walking out to her personal vehicle when she collapsed at approximately 11:30 a.m., according to The Washington Post.
She died at a local hospital a short while later, the D.C. Police Union told WJLA.
Sgt. Allen’s death is not believed to be related to COVID-19, according to police.
“Sergeant Allen’s unexpected passing brings the MPD family great sadness,” MPD Chief Peter Newsham said in a statement to WJLA. “Her friendship and good nature will be missed by many. I offer my deepest, most heartfelt condolences to Sergeant Allen’s family and friends at this time.”
Sgt. Allen served the MPD for over 30 years.
“She was a beloved first-line supervisor,” Chief Newsham told The Washington Post. “The officers at the 3rd District are absolutely devastated, as are all of us.”
She leaves behind her mother and her five siblings, WUSA reported.
Sgt. Allen’s sudden death came less than two days after fellow MPD Sergeant Mark Eckenrode, 54, suffered a fatal medical emergency in the line of duty.
In a tweet, the DC Police Union said that Sgt. Eckenrode’s death was “completely unexpected,” and is “not believed to be COVID-related.”
“This week, we tragically lost two of our officers, Sergeant Mark Eckenrode and Sergeant Donna Allen, while serving in the line of duty,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a statement to WUSA.
“These dedicated first responders were both decades-long veterans of the force, devoting their lives to keeping our residents safe. Our deepest condolences go to their loved ones and our entire MPD family,” Bowser said. “We are reminded every day of the tremendous sacrifices of our police officers during these challenging times as they protect our safety.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Metropolitan Police Department Sergeant Donna Allen, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.
