Miami Heat security and coaches helped out at condo collapse site

Miami’s professional sports teams helped on Thursday after a partial building collapse in Surfside, Florida that left one dead and nearly 100 missing.
Miami Heat security guard Tyler Herro and assistant coaches Chris Quinn and Eric Glass were on site handing out water at the reunion center after the Surfside tragedy.
According to the Miami Herald, the Heat called the police and asked for help. The NBA franchise also released a statement and directed fans to a website where they can also help.
“We were devastated when we heard of the catastrophic collapse of the Champlain Towers building in Surfside. Our hearts are with the victims and their families. We are grateful for the first responders who work around the clock on rescue operations, ”said the team.
“#HEATNation we need you. Join us in direct aid to help survivors of the Surfside building collapse,” added the team.
Miami Dolphins Food Relief Program partner, Seed Miami Food Truck, distributed meals to families and first responders in Surfside.
“Thanks to the first responders and volunteers who worked tirelessly today to lead rescue and relief efforts in our community,” the team said in a tweet.
Separately, the NFL team sent its condolences in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers go with the victims and their families as they deal with this sudden and tragic loss,” the team said. “We also appreciate our first responders and volunteers who have worked tirelessly today to lead rescue and relief efforts.”
The Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball sent vans with food and water to rescue workers and other essential items and toiletries to residents affected by the building’s collapse.
Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF and the NHL’s Florida Panthers also offer condolences.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency after the collapse.
President Biden also said earlier in the day that the federal government and FEMA were ready to provide further assistance once DeSantis officially declared the emergency.
The crowdfunding website GoFundMe has created a one-stop shop for users to find verified fundraisers related to the fatal collapse of an apartment building outside of Miami.
The company also highlighted a verified, general aid fund to help displaced residents and their families.
The rescue mission was still ongoing to find survivors.
