Mich. Deputy Dies after Falling from Horse During Medical Call
Clare County MI July 29 2022
A Clare sheriff’s deputy severely injured while patrolling on horseback has died of her injuries, family members said.
Nichole Shuff of Farwell was responding to a medical call at the county fair when she suffered a severe head injury Monday night, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Family members said late Wednesday that she did not survive.
Shuff, a volunteer with the department’s mounted division, was dismounting from her horse when she fell, hitting her head about 8:15 p.m. The horse spooked and fell on her.
Shuff had been hospitalized in Midland with what officials said was a severe head injury.
“Deputy Shuff continues to receive treatment at the hospital,” Clare sheriff’s officials said earlier Wednesday. “Please continue to pray for her and her family. The family and sheriff’s office thanks everyone for their continued support.”
The Clare County Fair kicked off Monday in Harrison and continues through Saturday.
