Prosecutors say a Milwaukee man threatened to kill security guards outside a south side bar and tried to run them over with a car while his pregnant girlfriend was in the passenger seat.
Hermilo Hernandez-Barojas, 26, appeared in court Friday after prosecutors charged him with four counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon in the altercation, which took place about 2:40 a.m. Sunday outside a bar in the 1300 block of West Greenfield Avenue.
Hernandez-Barojas was held on $5,000 bail, according to county jail records.
According to a criminal complaint:
Security guards asked Hernandez-Barojas to leave the bar after an argument with another patron and he became angry as he walked outside. He yelled at the three guards and said he’d fight them.
Hernandez-Barojas said, “Let’s fight one-on-one.” Then he ripped his shirt off and ripped a stick off a tree.
Shortly thereafter, the three guards saw Hernandez-Barojas driving a Honda Accord toward the bar and guards. He jumped the curb, drove onto the sidewalk and aimed for the guards. They leaped out of the way and Hernandez-Barojas drove away.
But he drove around the block and jumped the curb again, headed for the guards — who again dove away to avoid being hit.
Hernandez-Barojas then hit a parked minivan and slammed head-on into a Toyota Scion, totaling it. He got out of the car and ran and security guards wrestled him to the ground.
When police arrived, the man yelled, “I don’t owe a single dollar to the United States” and “I wanted to kill them.”
Once arrested he asked a police officer to be released because he “needed 10 minutes with the ‘fat and skinny guards to settle the score,’ ” the complaint states. He also told police he was trying to run over the guards with his car because he was humiliated by them.
Hernandez-Barojas’ girlfriend, who was in the car with him, told police he said he wanted to kill the guards.
If convicted of all charges, he could face up to 40 years in prison.
