Mobile AL May 16 2018Â A lieutenant with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department was charged Tuesday accused of rape and sodomy of a child.
Lt. Paul Stephan Bailey, 50, is accused of Rape 1st, Rape 2 of a minor over the age of 12, Sodomy 2nd of a minor over the age of 12, and Sex Abuse 2nd degree two counts of a minor over the age of 12, according to court documents released by the Sheriff’s office and the Mobile District Attorney.
Rape 1st carries a sentence of between 20-99 years.
The accusations relate to two separate alleged victims, although it’s not clear when the incidents are believed to have taken place. The grand jury stipulated in its findings that if Bailey makes bail he should be subject to electronic monitoring and have no contact with the victims, according to a DA press release.
Bailey was booked into Metro Jail while the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation continues examining the case. “We are continuing to work with SBI on this investigation and will begin our disciplinary procedures immediately,” said Sheriff Sam Cochran.
Lt. Bailey has been with the sheriff’s department since 2002 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2017.
