Monroe Community College Board of Trustees decides to arm officers with rifles
BRIGHTON, N.Y. February 7 2024 — The Monroe Community College Board of Trustees has decided to arm college public safety officers, who are sworn peace officers with “rifles.”
The decision was made to prepare against “rare, unlikely, and unfortunate circumstances” that could constitute a threat to school safety.
At this time, where the rifles will be stored or how many officers will have access to these rifles is unclear.
There’s no word so far on what type of rifles will be used or the training that officers will be required to take.
MCC is now the 15th SUNY community college to arm its security with rifles.
