Monterey County security officer shot
Monterey County CA June 9 2018 An “armed and dangerous” man is being sought for shooting a security guard at a quinceanera and his accomplice’s death later the same night, authorities say.
Angel Fabian Iniguez, 25, of Salinas, is being sought on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in the firefight May 26 at 385 San Juan Grade Road, said Cmdr. John Thornburg with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies have arrested two of his accomplices: a 17-year-old male and Giovanni Serafin Solis, 20, of Salinas, Thornburg said.
Solis and Iniguez face a murder charge in the death of another accomplice, Josiah Marquez, 19, who was found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle near the 500 block of Towt St. at about 11:15 p.m., Thornburg said.
Initially, Salinas police found the victim, later identified as Marquez, after receiving an anonymous tip, Thornburg said.
He was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
But the sheriff’s office took over the case after investigators linked Marquez to the quinceanera shooting earlier the same night, Thornburg said.
They had gone to the quinceanera where they got into a shootout with security guards, one of whom suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Thornburg said. He said he didn’t know what the fight was about, but investigators believe the shooting was gang-motivated, Thornburg said.
He declined to specify the firearms involved, or how Marquez wound up on the east side of Salinas.
“We do believe he was shot in the county and then left on Towt Street,” Thornburg said.
Deputies arrested Solis and the minor while serving three search warrants in Salinas Friday, he said. They have not recovered the gun, Thornburg said.
Iniguez remains at large and should be considered “armed and dangerous,” Thornburg said.
Anyone who sees Iniguez should call 911 immediately, Thornburg said. Iniquez has a tattoo of a star on his left cheekbone, Thornburg said.
He faces charges of murder, attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The juvenile faces charges of making criminal threats while Solis faces a charge of murder, Thornburg said.
