Montreal Canada March 29th, 2022
The Montreal police are investigating after a man in his 40s died following an altercation with security guards.
He is alleged to have tried to leave an SAQ store without paying for an item.
The incident started around 7 p.m. at the SAQ store on 28th Ave. in Lachine.
A Montreal police spokesperson said the security guards confronted the man after he tried to “flee with an item that he did not pay for.”
“The altercation began in the entrance of the business and continued outdoors. The two security guards saw the suspect fall to the ground. He got up on his own and was still aggressive and he fell to the ground again,” the spokesperson said.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
The Montreal police major crimes section will investigate to determine whether the man died as a result of being injured during the altercation or whether he had health problems before it began.
