Mother arrested for leaving 3 month baby in cat at Twin River Casino
LINCOLN, R.I. Aug 18 2018— A 3-month-old girl was left in a car outside Twin River Casino for about an hour and a half on Wednesday morning, the Lincoln police said.
According to a news release from Capt. Philip Gould, Police Officer Christopher Hannon was working a detail at the casino around 10 a.m. when casino security informed him that a child had been left alone in a parked car.
Hannon and casino security personnel found the infant inside a gray 2013 Kia Sorrento, which was still running, with the driver’s side window down. The girl was covered by a blanket in the back seat.
While emergency personnel were on the scene, the girl’s mother, Halston A. Borglund, 26, who is from the Cape Cod area, arrived. She reported that she had left the child only while she retrieved keys from the casino, according to the news release.
Upon further investigation, authorities determined that Borglund had actually entered the casino at 8:28 a.m.
Borglund was taken into custody on charges of cruelty or neglect of a child, and was later taken for a medical evaluation.
The infant girl is reported to be in fair condition. DCYF has taken custody of her.
