MS Hospital Security Officer Shot To Death, 2 Person Also Killed
JACKSON MS Feb 20 2020 Two people were shot and killed in the employee parking lot of a Jackson hospital Wednesday morning, according to police.
Police say that a dispute occurred at the Baptist hospital and that a male security officer and a female employee were killed in the west end parking lot just after 6:30.
Responding police officers found the two victims lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims had already died from their injuries when officer arrived.
Police Chief James Davis said the incident was domestic-related.
A person approached the woman in the parking lot, a struggle ensued, and the shooter pulled out a gun and shot the woman first.
The security officer responded and tried to intervene and was then shot several times by the gunman who then drove away in the woman’s car.
Jackson Police said the car the suspected shooter was driving was found at a cemetery in Pearl MS..
Pearl and Jackson police responded to Oak Grove Church where witnesses said a man walked into the cemetery and shot himself. The police chief said they believe this is the suspect in the shooting at Baptist.
Police later identified the victims as 32-year-old Christina Davis and 64-year-old Browning Luckett Jr, according to The Associated Press.
A hospital spokesperson said the campus is safe and is not on lockdown.
Baptist hospital released the following statement:
Earlier this morning, two of our employees were shot and killed in our parking lot. One was involved in a domestic violence situation, the other was acting as a Good Samaritan. The police are at the scene, and our campus is safe and accessible to all who need care.
We are deeply saddened by this horrific tragedy. Our team members are our family and losing two of them under these circumstances is devastating. We ask that you pray for the families and friends of these two team members who dedicated their professional lives to healing and protecting others.
