Naples man charged with assaulting security, bringing gun to hospital
Collier County FL Jan 16 2018 A 48-year-old Naples man was arrested on charges of assaulting a security guard and bringing a firearm into a hospital, according to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office report.
The report says Ryan Scott Bennett brought a friend to Physicians Regional —Collier Boulevard around 3 a.m. Sunday for a leg injury. After waiting a few minutes and being told that the emergency room was full and they would be seen soon, the report says Bennett became “verbally aggressive.”
A security guard responded shortly afterward and asked Bennett to calm down, the report says. Bennett left to get his vehicle to take his friend to another hospital, but instead of leaving, the report says he returned and became more aggressive than he had been before.
The report says Bennett started pushing and “chest bumping” the security guard when he was asked to leave, so the guard tackled Bennett and took him to the ground. Another hospital employee assisted the guard and moments later, the report says, the guard noticed that Bennett had a gun and that his hand was on its grip.
The guard and the other employee were able to get the gun away from Bennett and gave it to staff members to secure it, the report says. Deputies arrived after the gun had already been taken away and interviewed those involved and the witnesses.
The report says deputies watched the incident on the hospital’s security footage. When they interviewed Bennett, the report says he told them he had forgotten the gun was on him.
Bennett was charged with battery on the security of a hospital’s emergency department and introduction of an unlawful article into a hospital.
