NC police officer shot on firing range
PITT COUNTY, NC April 25 2019 Authorities are investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting of a police officer at a college firing range.
The shooting happened around 11:10 a.m. at the PCC Firearm Training Center on Ellen Farm Road near Bethel.
Pitt Community College spokeswoman Stephanie Brown told WITN that no college students were involved.
She says Vidant Medical Center police were using their facility for recertification training when one of the officers’ gun went off as he was taking it out of the holster, shooting himself.
The officer has been identified as David Grasha, who is also a part-time deputy sheriff.
The initial report said Grasha was shot in the leg.
He was rushed to Vidant Medical Center and we’re awaiting more information on his condition.
Because of happened on college property, PCC police will investigate the shooting.
